Sevier demands that the Cherokee chiefs do their best to apprehend and punish those from amongst their nation who were responsible for the murders of several citizens of Tennessee. He also assures Dinsmoor that it is his intention to punish any white men who commit violence against the Cherokees. Sevier requests that Dinsmoor read an enclosed letter (no longer attached) to the Cherokee leaders and assure them that the state of Tennessee only desires peace.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the University of Tennessee, Knoxville Libraries in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>gs040</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:publisher>Manuscript held by the The Tennessee State Library and Archives, Nashville, TN, Governor Sevier, box 1, folder 3, document tl040.</dc:publisher><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:subject>Cherokee Indians--Government relations</dc:subject><dc:subject>Cherokee Indians--Violence against</dc:subject><dc:subject>Cherokee Indians--Claims against</dc:subject><dc:title>Letter, 1797 Mar. 30, Knoxville, [Tennessee to] Silas Dinsmore [i.e., Dinsmoor] / J[ohn] Sevier of an image</dc:title><dc:type>Text</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
