Sevier discusses the murders of Red Bird and another Cherokee Indian by Mitchell and Levinstone. He calls the murders "wanton and unprovoked" and states that he wishes to have the perpetrators apprehended, although it may be difficult, and taken to Kentucky to be punished.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the University of Tennessee, Knoxville Libraries in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>gs037</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:publisher>Manuscript held by the Tennessee State Library and Archives, Nashville, TN, Governor Sevier, box 1, folder 3, document tl037.</dc:publisher><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:subject>Cherokee Indians--Government relations</dc:subject><dc:subject>Cherokee Indians--Violence against</dc:subject><dc:title>[Letter] 1797 Mar. 17, Knoxville, [Tennessee to] Governor [James] Garrard of Kentucky / [John Sevier] of an image</dc:title><dc:type>Text</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
