It is alleged that the Creek Indians stole the two slaves and the gun from Wilkes County (Georgia) and took them into the Creek Nation. The younger Howell states that his father demanded the return of the property at the Treaty of Coleraine, between the Creeks and the U.S. (1796). Ann Howell adds that an Indian trader, referred to as Tim Barnett (Timothy Barnard?), informed them that he had seen the two slaves in the Creek Nation and would return one of them to Howell in return for permission to keep the other.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2001, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>cmt015</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, The University of Georgia Libraries, C.
