Wool, at army headquarters in New Echota, to the Cherokees, dated March 22, 1837. Wool informs the Cherokees that they have until May 25, 1838 to remove to a territory west of the Mississippi according to the provisions of the New Echota Treaty (signed in 1835) or else be forced to remove by U.S. soldiers. Wool threatens them with despicable treatment and tells them their fate will be even worse than the Creeks if they do not cooperate and remove voluntarily.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the University of Tennessee, Knoxville Libraries in 2000, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>ch078</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:publisher>Manuscript held by the The Tennessee State Library and Archives, Nashville, TN, State Library Cherokee Collection, box Box 3, folder Folder 9, document ch078.</dc:publisher><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:subject>Cherokee Indians--Relocation</dc:subject><dc:subject>Creek Indians--Violence against</dc:subject><dc:subject>Trail of Tears, 1838</dc:subject><dc:title>[Address] 1837 Mar. 22, Headquarters, New Echota, G[eorgi]a / Br[i]g[adier] Gen[era]l John E.
