Martin reports that he has assumed the duties of Indian agent (to the Cherokees) and has a considerably difficult summer due to frequent encroachments by inhabitants of the state of Franklin, as well as meddlesome talks from the Spaniards and the western Indians. He mentions the former British agent, Mr. McDonald and his relationship with the Chickamaugas, Alexander McGillivray, and the Creeks.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the University of Tennessee, Knoxville Libraries in 2000, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>ch013</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:publisher>Manuscript held by the The Tennessee State Library and Archives, Nashville, TN, State Library Cherokee Collection, box 1, folder 17, document ch013.</dc:publisher><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:subject>Creek Indians--Government relations</dc:subject><dc:subject>Indian agents</dc:subject><dc:subject>Cherokee Indians--Government relations</dc:subject><dc:title>[Letter] 1785 Sept. 19, Chotee [i.e., Chota ?] to Gov[ernor of North Carolina, Richard] Caswell / Col[onel] Joseph Martin of an image</dc:title><dc:type>Text</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
