Martin and Ridge report to Ross on the progress of the Cherokee delegation in Washington and their decision to delay the delivery of the Cherokee Memorial to Congress. They indicate that they have news of atrocities against the Cherokees in Georgia. They further inform Ross that Elias Boudinot and John Ridge have met with Henry Clay who has pledged his support. They lament the hypocrisy with which they are met in dealing with the U.S. government. In addition, Martin and Ridge make reference to a delegation of Creek leaders also in Washington and comment on William Wirt's involvement in the Supreme Court case Worcester v. Georgia.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the University of Tennessee, Knoxville Libraries in 2000, as part of GALILEO, funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>ch012</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:publisher>Manuscript held by the The Tennessee State Library and Archives, Nashville, TN, State Library Cherokee Collection, box 1, folder 16, document ch012.</dc:publisher><dc:relation>Mode of access: World Wide Web.</dc:relation><dc:relation>System requirements: AT&amp;T DjVu browser plug-in needed to view images of documents.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:subject>Cherokee Indians--Violence against</dc:subject><dc:subject>Cherokee Indians--Government relations</dc:subject><dc:title>[Letter] 1831 Dec. 28, Washington [to] John Ross, Cherokee Nation / John Martin [and] John Ridge of an image</dc:title><dc:type>Text</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
