Scaffolding is visible on either side of the ship, and workers are visible on top of the ship and along elevated walkways on the right side of the ship. Named for former North Carolina treasurer Donald W. Bain (d. 1892), the ship was the second constructed in Brunswick by the J.A. Jones Construction Company. Its keel was laid July 21, 1942.
