Prater's Mill located on Coahulla Creek along Ga. Highway 2 about 10 miles north of Dalton. This gristmill was built by Benjamin Franklin Prater in the late 1850s of virgin pine timbers with mortised and pegged joints. Meal and later flour were produced there. The mill was operated by members of the Prater family until 1953 when a Rev. Pratt purchased it. Later Wally Bryant owned it. The mill was renovated in the early 1970s.</dc:description><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-CR/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:subject>Mills and mill-work--Georgia--Whitfield County</dc:subject><dc:subject>Gristmills--Georgia--Whitfield County</dc:subject><dc:subject>Architecture--Georgia--Whitfield County</dc:subject><dc:subject>Business--Georgia--Whitfield County</dc:subject><dc:title>[Photograph of Prater's Mill, Whitfield County, Georgia, 1971 June]</dc:title><dc:type>StillImage</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
