He was traveling by train to Atlanta to take part in the ceremonies at the unveiling of a monument to the late Benjamin Harvey Hill which was to take place on May 1st. Hill, who was from LaGrange, had served in the House and Senate of both the U.S. Congress and the Georgia General Assembly.
