Members of the first basketball team at Clayton High School seen on the steps of the school which was located on what is now Hiawassee Street. In 1909 the city of Clayton was incorporated and an independent school system was established complete with a new building. When the first four-year high school in Clayton was established in 1920, it was housed in this structure. In 1925, when the city system was abolished in favor of a county system, the property was transferred to the county board of education.
