Students and faculty at Rabun Gap Industrial School pose for a photograph in front of the original building. The school was founded by Andrew Jackson Ritchie and opened in 1905. Academic and industrial subjects were taught to both day and boarding students. In Feb. 1926 fire destroyed this main building. Shortly thereafter, fire destroyed almost all of the Nacoochee Institute in neighboring White County. Since the schools were similar, it was decided to merge them and build a large plant at Rabun Gap. It was known as Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School.</dc:description><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-CR/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:subject>Schools--Georgia--Rabun County</dc:subject><dc:subject>Children--Georgia</dc:subject><dc:subject>Women--Georgia--Rabun Gap</dc:subject><dc:subject>Architecture--Georgia--Rabun Gap</dc:subject><dc:subject>Education--Georgia--Rabun Gap</dc:subject><dc:subject>Portraits--Georgia--Rabun Gap</dc:subject><dc:title>[Photograph of students and faculty at Rabun Gap Industrial School, Rabun Gap, Rabun County, Georgia, not before 1905]</dc:title><dc:type>StillImage</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
