Born in Cedartown, Polk County, Ga., February 3, 1868. He was a member of the Democrat Party, a member of the Georgia state senate from 1911-12, and served as the Georgia Democratic state chair from 1912-13. He was a U.S. Senator from Georgia from 1919-32.
