It was ready for use in 883 and served as a dormitory, dining hall, and classroom building. The bell tower blew off ca. 1920 was not replaced. The school was chartered in 1849 as Forsyth Female Collegiate Institute and is now known as Tift College.2003/07/09: Tift College merged with Mercer University in 1986. With the merger, Mercer promised to uphold the heritage and ideals of the original Tift College.
