Dr. Carey Vinzant (1904-1980). He served as president of Bessie Tift College from 1952-1969. The school chartered in 1849 as Forsyth Female Collegiate Institute is now known as Tift College. Under Dr. Vinzant's term the physical plant of the school was increased four fold.</dc:description><dc:description>2003/07/09: Tift College merged with Mercer University in 1986. With the merger, Mercer promised to uphold the heritage and ideals of the original Tift College.
