"Hawthorne Heights" was built ca. 1867 to 1869. Members of the Hart, Sibley, and Lamb families have occupied it over the years. The name comes from the fact that a thick hawthorne hedge surrounded a large garden. The style of the house was raised cottage. In 1900 the house was renovated. The porch was torn down and pillars were added. (See: grn146) Note the members of the family and the blacks, who were probably servants, standing under the balcony.</dc:description><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-CR/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:subject>African American domestics--Georgia--Union Point</dc:subject><dc:subject>Porches--Georgia--Greene County</dc:subject><dc:subject>African Americans--Georgia--Union Point</dc:subject><dc:subject>Architecture--Georgia--Union Point</dc:subject><dc:subject>Domestic life--Georgia--Union Point</dc:subject><dc:title>[Photograph of Hawthorne Heights, Union Point, Greene County, Georgia, not after 1900]</dc:title><dc:type>StillImage</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
