William R. Jackson, Senior and Edward A. Copelan helped to found the mills in 1899. The name came from Jackson's wife, Mary, and Copelan's wife, Leila. The tower part was probably erected in 1900. Note the railroad tracks that run right by the factory. The round structure at the right belonged to the railroad. It may have been part of the railroad station complex.</dc:description><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-CR/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:subject>Cotton textile industry--Georgia--Greensboro</dc:subject><dc:subject>Railroads--Track</dc:subject><dc:subject>Agriculture--Georgia--Greensboro</dc:subject><dc:subject>Architecture--Georgia--Greensboro</dc:subject><dc:subject>Business--Georgia--Greensboro</dc:subject><dc:subject>Transportation--Georgia--Greensboro</dc:subject><dc:title>[Photograph of the exterior of Mary-Leila Cotton Mills, Greensboro, Greene County, Georgia, ca. 1910?]</dc:title><dc:type>StillImage</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
