In the background is the Oothcaloga Depot built ca. 1859 which was served by the Western & Atlantic Railroad. In the foreground is a twenty foot marble monument to General Charles Haney Nelson (1796-1848). General Nelson had participated in the Seminole Indian War and the Mexican War of 1845. He had been born in Wilkes County, Georgia but later purchased land east of Calhoun. The monument had stood in the Gordon County Courthouse square and in a small park north of Calhoun. In 1975 it was moved to this location at the intersection of Park Avenue and Oothcaloga Street.</dc:description><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-CR/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:subject>Railroad stations--Georgia--Calhoun</dc:subject><dc:subject>Architecture--Georgia--Calhoun</dc:subject><dc:subject>Business--Georgia--Calhoun</dc:subject><dc:subject>Armed Forces--Georgia--Calhoun</dc:subject><dc:title>[Photograph of Oothcaloga Depot, Calhoun, Gordon County, Georgia, 1976]</dc:title><dc:type>StillImage</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
