The commissary at Birdsville. In 1813 a post office was established on the plantation belonging to the Jones family. It was named Birdsville after Samuel Bird, the postmaster. The plantation, which has been in existence since the mid-1700s, was located west of where Millen is today. Until Jenkins County was created in 1905, this area was part of Burke County. Birdsville was a stagecoach stop as it was on the Old Louisville Road, which connected Louisville and Savannah.</dc:description><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-CR/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:subject>Plantations--Georgia--Jenkins County</dc:subject><dc:subject>Architecture--Georgia--Jenkins County</dc:subject><dc:subject>Business--Georgia--Jenkins County</dc:subject><dc:title>[Photograph of the commissary at Birdsville, Jenkins County, Georgia, ca. 1964]</dc:title><dc:type>StillImage</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
