Reeder and Thomas W. Harbin in South Carolina. He joined Company E of the 4th Regiment of South Carolina Infantry as a sergeant, and was promoted to 3rd lieutenant on October 15, 1861. Harbin participated in the First Battle of Manassas (Bull Run). Harbin died during the Civil War.
