He says he is glad she is enjoying Montgomery, Alabama. James gives her advice on courtship. He tells her not to rush into anything because she will probably be courted five or more times while in Montgomery. She is currently being pursued by Porter King and Bob [Goree]. James confides in Callie his love for Miss Anna [Camak?] and asks her not to tell anyone. He also informs her of his activities with Tom Screven while in Savannah where he saw some members of the Georgia Senate. Tom Screven is also visiting the Barnards in North Hampton, Georgia, while James is there. He tells Callie to come home by January 16, 1852 because he cannot bear to be at home without her there.</dc:description><dc:description>Digital image and encoded transcription of an original manuscript, scanned, transcribed and encoded by the Digital Library of Georgia in 2001, as part of GALILEO.</dc:description><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>jhl0085</dc:identifier><dc:relation>http://american-south.org/</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/NoC-US/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Manuscript held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Joseph Henry Lumpkin family papers, 1821-1862 (bulk 1852-1857), box 2, folder 9, document jhl0085.</dc:source><dc:subject>Hunting--Georgia</dc:subject><dc:subject>Alabama--Social life and customs--19th century</dc:subject><dc:subject>Georgia--Politics and government</dc:subject><dc:subject>King, Callie, 1826-1905--Courtship</dc:subject><dc:subject>King, Porter, 1824-1890--Courtship</dc:subject><dc:subject>Lumpkin, James M.--Courtship</dc:subject><dc:subject>Screven, Thomas</dc:subject><dc:subject>Barnard, Tim</dc:subject><dc:subject>King, Callie, 1826-1905</dc:subject><dc:title>Letter: North Hamptons, [Georgia] to Callie [Lumpkin King], Montgomery, [Alabama], 1851 Dec. 29</dc:title><dc:type>Text</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
