In his letter, King tells Callie that he misses her and their son Joseph, who is ill, and that his sister, Sarah [Goree], Dr. Bates, and many others in town have inquired about them. He also reports that in Selma, Alabama he met Judge Phelan and Mr. and Mrs. McIntosh.
