Page: [1] Friday night Oct [October] 12th/ 55 [1855] My dear Callie, I write you just to say that I am well and spirits buoyant at the prospect of starting for my wife and baby on Sunday morning -- I had intended waiting for the stage on Sunday night but feared the night air might bring on chills -- Rufus Reid and myself take a hack to Selma -- he to see his darling, I my darlings -- he will bring his wife home with him, I wife and baby -- I believe I wrote you of Selina Jones and Dr [Doctor] Perrys [Perry's] marriage -- Miss Harris & -- Bragg (one of the [illegible text] Howard students) were married yestarday [yesterday] morning -- Prof [Professor] Schmidt and Lady returned a day or two since -- I think our house will be ready by the time we reach home -- they are putting the last coat of paint on your room to-day [today] -- It looks nice I do assure you, but not quite nice enough for Callie -- I have stuck to the workmen closely this week Steve has nearly finished the gravel walk, I hope it will suit 'Missus" I thought to-day [today], what fine sport our boy would have throwing rocks at Page: [2] the passersby and how Ma would twig him out for it -- daily inquiries are made "when is Callie coming, when is Mrs King coming home" Every body [Everybody] seems anxious to see you and the boy -- I expect to be with you on Tuesday night & leave for home on Thursday morning -- Kiss my son a thousand times and believe me as ever fondly your [Signed] Porter
