A railed porch supported by slender round columns spans the front of the house. The entrance is decorated by sidelights and transom. The house was purportedly owned by Button Gwinnett, signer of the Declaration of Independence. After his death, the island and house returned to Thomas Bosomworth. Subsequent owners include Tunis Campbell, Howard Coffin who enlarged and restored the house, Edward John Noble, the Edward J.
