The portico is approached by a wide stone stairway. Long Italianate windows and paired roof brackets show a blending of styles. The first floor entrance has double doors with arched top panels and an arched transom over.Shortly after Campbell County was created, a wooden courthouse was built in the new county seat of Campbellton. This building was replaced in 1835 with a two-story brick structure. Georgia's first grand jury convened there April 20, 1829 and the first Confederate Veteran Reunion took place here. In 1870, the legislature provided that Campbell County's seat of government be moved to a site on the Atlanta & West Point Railroad. Presumably, the courthouse was completed in 1872, after which the old courthouse in Campbellton was abandoned, eventually being torn down in the early 1900s. The new courthouse at Fairburn served until Campbell County merged with Fulton County on Jan. 1, 1932. In 1983, the Old Campbell County Courthouse was restored. Since then, it has served as a community center.The Old Campbell County State Historical Marker located at the Old Campbell County Courhouse in Fairburn, Ga. reads:"This was the Courthouse of Campbell County at the time it was merged with Fulton County Jan. 1, 1932. When the County was created by Acts of the Legislature Dec. 20 & 22, 1828, the Site was at Campbellton on the Chattahoochee but it was moved to Fairburn in 1870. The county was named for Col. Duncan G. Campbell, one of the signers of the Treaty made at Indian Springs in 1825 by which the Creeks ceded much of the land that later made up Campbell County. Among the first County officers were: Sheriff Nathaniel Nickolson; Clerk of Superior Court Littleberry Watts; Clerk of Interior Court Gambril White; Coroner Isaac Calhoun and Surveyor Shadrach Green."For more information see Linley, John.
