The six-panel entrance door has a fanlight with spread eagle at its center. The columns of the lower floor have been replaced with larger substitutes. Inside, the large entrance hall opens into a wider stair hall with a circular staircase. The portico is wider than the stair hall and shelters a window in each adjoining room.</dc:description><dc:description>The house provided lodging to visitors and legislators during the city's years as capital of Georgia (1807-1868) as the U.S. Hotel and the Beecher-Brown Hotel. In 1857 merchant Daniel B. Stetson purchased the home. From 1951-1966 Sanford House Tea Room operated in the home. The Sanford family donated it to the Old Capital Historical Society who moved it to West Hancock Street in 1966. HABS photos of the porch in 1936 show steps on the sides, but the restored house has steps leading up the front.</dc:description><dc:description>For more information, see Linley, John.
