At the rear is a similar one-story porch. The roof is hipped, and the building has interior chimneys. Upper stories have clapboard siding. The house was built using the central hall plan. The house was still standing in 1963, though it had been vacant for many years, and the front steps were on the verge of collapse. By 1975, the Georgia Office of Historic Preservation described it as "in ruins." Sykes paid for the house with sweet potatoe profits, and his son-in-law John Treadwell successfully farmed turnips on the land. The property had many owners after Treadwell's death, including Judge Welborn Moore and the Shacklefords. In 1950 it was purchased by Dr. Frank Lacksen and his wife Mary.
