The plan for the cemetary, drawn by Dr. James Camak,\nreflects the Victorian idea of tasteful landscaping with winding roads and paths suitable for strolls. Lots were divided into three classes: first, second, and third, sold for fifty, thirty, and ten dollars respectively. Free spaces were set aside for those who could not pay. The sexton's wages were to be paid from the purchase of lots. A board of trustees was chosen to administer the cemetary, and Thomas R. R. Cobb was elected chairman. The trustees were incorporated in 1860 and continue to administer the cemetary.
