DeKalb County Soil & Water Conservation District FY 2012 ANNUAL REPORT 1 Tri Peavine Creek Introduction The mission of the DeKalb County Soil & Water Conservation District is to provide educational and technical assistance to conserve soil, improve water quality, and enhance the natural resources in DeKalb County. The District could not successfully accomplish our mission without the partnership with local governments including DeKalb County, Doraville, Dunwoody, Decatur, Stone Mountain, Chamblee and Avondale Estates. In addition the District would like to thank the technical support and assistance of the Georgia Soil & Water Conservation Commission and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. Our partners provide the foundation to help us accomplish our conservation programs. We are especially grateful for their support and assistance to the District. The Board of Supervisors of the DeKalb County Soil & Water Conservation District is proud of the accomplishments during the FY2012. These accomplishments are summarized in this Annual Report. DeKalb County Soil & Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors _________________________ Dell MacGregor, Chairman Doug Denton, Vice-Chairman Jan Dunaway Faye Lyons-Gary Activities Land Use Offered technical assistance to promote and encourage the use of the best available technologies for sound land use practices and water and soil conservation. Active in educational efforts to inform citizens of the importance of reporting sewer spills to the District and to EPD. Erosion & Sediment Control Worked closely with the local units of government, developers and builders to encourage full implementation of the Erosion and Sediment Control Act. Hosted the 25th Annual E&SC Seminar and Exposition May 31, 2012. Worked closely with local issuing authorities of land-disturbance permits in regards to their E&SC program. Conducted Overviews of the Erosion and Sediment Control Program of certified Local Issuing Authorities in the District. Legislative Developed a social and political climate in the County that supports conservation and wise use of soil and water resources. Education Sent four high school students to the Natural Resource Conservation Workshop in Tifton, Georgia.
