Located near the northern edge of the mysterious Oke fenokee Swamp, this park is home to many fascinati ng creatures and plants, including all igators. Wa lking along the lake shore and nature trai l, visitors may see carn ivorous pitcher pl ants, the shy gopher tortoise, numerous oak va ri eties, saw palmettos, yellow shafted fl ickers, warb lers, owls and great blue herons. The park's lake offers opportu ni ties for skiing, boating and fishing. The championship 18-hole gol f course, The Lakes, features a cl ubhouse, gol f pro, unl imi ted weekday pl ay and junior/ senior discounts. This is one of the few state par ks named after a woman, and its name is rich ly deserved. Laura Wa lker was a Georgia writer, teacher, civic leader and natura list who was a great lover of trees and worked for their preservation.
