Fort Mounta in derives its name from an ancient 855-foot-long rock wa ll wh ich stands on the highest point of the mountai n. The mysterious wa ll is thought to have been buil t by Indians as fortification agai nst other more hostile Indians or for ancient ceremonies. Situated in the Chattahoochee National Forest close to the Cohutta Wild erness area, this par k offers a vari ety of outdoor activities. Hi kers, horse lovers and mountai n bi kers wi ll find some o f the most beaut iful tra ils in northern Georgia. Most wi nd through hardwood forest and blueberry thickets, occasionally crossing streams and providing spectacular vistas. During the summer, children will enjoy the sand beach located on a coo l mountain lake, as well as miniature golf and pedal boats. Stabl es offer guided horseback rid es and sta ll rental.
