Non-Resident License Requirements: Non-Resident youth hunters (less than 16 years old) are still required to purchase a non-resident hunting license to hunt big game.but are exempt from big game license requirements. Forsyth County: South of GA Hwy 20, it is now legal to hunt with muzzleloaders during primitive weapons season and with muzzleloaders and shotguns loaded with buckshot during firearms deer season. Bear Season Changes: In North Georgia counties traditionally open for bear hunting, bears may now be taken during the primitive weapons season with muzzleloaders and in these additional counties: Bartow, Cherokee, Forsyth, Gordon, and Hall counties. Primitive Weapons and Archery Hunting: Muzzleloaderhunters may nowtake deer of either sex the entire week of primitive weapons season. Hunting Seasons and Regulations TURN IN POACHERS 1-800~241-4113 Page 5 2001-2002 Georgia Hunting Regulations HUNTER EDUCATION COURSE AND AGEREQUIREMENTSFORHUNTING General: Residents and non-residents 'born on or after Jan. 1, 1961, must successfully complete a hunter education course prior to purchasing a season hunting license. However, a hunter education course is not required to purchase a one (1) day or seven (7) day hunting license. Hunter education courses certified or mandated by any state wildlife agency or Canadian province are accepted. Hunter Education is not required to hunt on one's own land or land of a parent or guardian. Contact your local DNA Law Enforcement Office or 770/784-3068 for course information or register at www.georgia wildlife.com. Replacement Certificates: Anyone who completed a Georgia hunter education course and needs a replacement Hunter Safety Certificate, please call 800-864-7275 or 770-389-7275 in Atlanta between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday for information. Replacements are also available on the Internet at www.gohuntgeorgia.com Hunters Under Age 12 are not required to complete a hunter education course, unless hunting on National Wildlife Refuges (NWR), or Park Service lands. On NWRs and Park Service lands, children ages 10-16 must carry a valid hunter safety certificate. No one under age 12 (age 16 for WMA, NWR, and Park Service big game hunts) may hunt unless under direct adult supervision (within sight or hearing of person 18 years old or older). It is,unlawful for an adult to permit their chi.Id or ward under age 12 to hunt unsupervised. See other special rules for WMAs on page14. Hunters Age 12-15 must complete a hunter education course prior to hunting unless under supervision of a licensed Jan. 1, 1961 must meet hunter education course requirements but. need not present their hunter safety certificate when buying a season hunting license or possess it while hunting. LICENSE REQUIREMENTS General: Reliable identification is required to purchase a license. Conservation r9ngers can require positive identification when checking licenses. All required hunting licenses and stamps must be in possession while hunting. Resident: "Resident" means any citizen of the United States who has been domiciled within the State of Georgia for c1 period of at least three months. Residents include full-time military personnel on active duty who list Georgia as their home of record in their official military files or who a.re stationed at a military base located in Georgia and the dependents of such military personnel. HONORARY LICENSE FOR SENIOR CITIZENS: Georgia residents 65 years old or older may obtain an Honorary License from any license dealer. Georgia residents who possess a valid Georgia honorary hunting and fishing license may hunt in Florida without Florida hunting licenses. HONORARY LICENSE FOR DISABLED GEORGIANS: Georgia residents who are permanently, totally disabled may obtain an Honorary License by applying to the License Unit of the Department (2189 Northlake Pkwy., Building 10, Suite 108, Tucker, GA 30084, 770/414-3333). A qualifying disability is an impairment of a permanent and total nature which prevents gainful employment and is certified as such by the Department of Veterans Affairs, Social Security Administration, Medicaid, Medicare, or Rail Road Retirement System. Honorary License for disabled Georgians must be renewed every three (3) years. RESIDENT LICENSES are required for all resident hunters 16 years old or older, except when hunting on land owned by them or their immediate family (blood or dependent relationship) residing in the same household. NON-RESIDENT LICENSE: A valid NonResident Hunting License is required for all non-resident big game hunters and small-game hunters 16 years old and older. Additionally, non-resident big game hunters (deer, turkey, or bear) 16 years of age and older must posess a valid Big Game License. However, nonresidents under age 16 are exempt from Big Game License requirements. Nonresident deer hunters of all ages must posess a deer harvest record. RECIPROCALAGREEMENTS: Florida resident 65 or older who has a valid Florida Resident Senior Hunting and Fishing Certificate may hunt in Georgia without Georgia hunting licenses. PRIMITIVE WEAPONS LICENSE is required for resident (16 years or older) and all non-resident bow and muzzleloader hunters unless they possess an Honorary Hunting License, Sportsman License, or Lifetime License. BIG GAME LICENSE is required for hunting deer, turkey, or bear, in addition to a regular Hunting License or Primitive Weapons License. , The big game license requirement is met by residents who purchase an All Weapons License, Lifetime License, Honorary License, or a Sportsman License. Deer hl:mters who are not required to purchase a hunting license must have a complimentary deer harvest record, which is issued by any license dealer. Everyone .else who hunts big game must purchase a Big adult hunter. Hunters age 12-15 must possess a hunter safety certificate and be under adult supervision while hunting on a WMA. It is unlawful for an adult to permit their child or ward (age 12-15) to hunt without adult supervision unless the child possesses a hunter safety pertificat<:; while hunting.
