Thomas New Louisville Robert Pollard Appling Fred Warnell Richmond Hill H. G. Yeomans Swainsboro June 1, 2009 Dear Directory User: The Georgia Forestry Commission is pleased to bring you the Georgia Primary WoodUsing Industries Directory 2009. The Directory is designed to serve as a reference for producers seeking to market their wood products and for wood users in locating suppliers. The forest products industry remains a strong economic force in Georgia. Our latest study of the industry shows an increase in economic output above 2006 levels. The total direct and indirect impact of the forest industry on Georgia's economy increased 3% to $28.5 billion, with a total of 141,155 jobs. Forestry ranks second among all industries in the State in the amount of compensation to employees and business owners, with more than $2.7 billion paid. Georgia's commercial forest totals more than 24 million acres and forest growth exceeds harvest by 39% each year. This forest should continue to supply solid wood and fiber to a strong forest industry for decades into the future. The Commission's staff is working to insure that Georgia firms invest in Georgia wood product manufacturing as globalization places increasingly competitive demands on the industry. Creating enhanced forest value by marketing Georgia's products through this Primary Wood-Using Industries Directory is an important part of our mission. The Georgia Forestry Commission invites new and existing Georgia forest product industries to be included in future editions of this directory by contacting us at 1-800-GATREES. I also invite your comments on how the Georgia Forestry Commission can better provide the right services to you, a valued partner in Georgia's forest industry. Sincerely, Robert D.
