They have been arranged by publishers alphabetically under the subject headings as given in the Table of Contents. 1. WHEN WILL AN AREA COME UP FOR ADOPTION? All textbooks fall within one of five areas. Each year at a specified time one of these Areas come up for adoption and all textbooks presented by the publishers which belong in this Area are considered by the Textbook Committee. In the school year following the adoption each school system should make plans for adopting textbooks in that Area. Textbooks of any Area to complete a series on current bid may be presented at any adoption period, and, if adopted, are placed on bid listing conforming to the current bid listing for the series. The Textbook Areas, with date of next adoption, are as follows 1. Social Studies (1006) 2. Business Education, Industrial Arts, Vocational Subjects (1967) 3. Mathematics, Science and Health (1968) 4. English, Fine Arts, and Foreign Languages (1969) 5. Reading and Literature (1970) 2. BASIS OF TEXTBOOK ALLOTMENTS. Each year a specific amount of money is appropriated by the Budget Com- mission for textbook and library services. Textbook funds are prorated and appropriated to each individual system on the basis of total number of pupils and on the matching formula under the Education Law of 1963. These funds are kept in a separate account by each school system. 3. Textbooks for partially sighted children may be purchased by approval of the Division of Exceptional Children. TEXTBOOK ALLOTMENT AND PAYMENT UNIT DIVISION OF ADM1NISTRATION AND FINANCE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION iv How To Order Textbooks WILL SCHOOLS PLEASE OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING: 1. Be sure you have sufficient state and local textbook allotment funds to cover your order. If you do not have a current balance, post date orders for July 1 if necessary for summer shipments. School system must assume financial responsibility for all orders. 2. Order only titles and editions contained in this catalog. 3. Refer to the Table of Contents to locate a book. 4. Most pulblishers allow one free copy of the teacher's edition if it is ordered at the same time an order is placed for a classroom quantity (25 copies) of the pupil's edition. However, a teacher's edition will not be shipped unless specifically ordered. 5. Where there is a book of the same title for each grade, be sure to indicate grade desired. 6. Use only the official State Textbook Order Blank. An adequate supply may be obtained from the Textbook Allotment and Payment 0nit. See address in Item 10. l!f order blanks are reproduced they must be exactly the same as the order blanks supplied by the State. '1. Orders should be typed. 8. Use separate order blank for each publisher. 9. Fill in all information. Give correct and complete title, copy-right date, grade, exchange price and extension. You must check price of book; the state office does not. 10. Be certain shipping address is complete. Please do not have shipment sent to a school which will be closed in the summer. 11. Send the original and one ca11bon copy of the order, signed by the local Superintendent to: Textbook Allotment and Payment Unit State Department of Education 202 State Office Building Atlanta, Georgia 30334 12. An approved copy will be returned to the local system and an original copy will be sent on to the book supplier. Please allow ninety (90) days for receipt of order. 13. Upon receipt of books, check the shipment against the invoice and the original order. 14. All orders must have prior approval. No confirmation orders. 15.
