In th e gr ea t qua rries at Tate th ere is said t o be ma rble en ough t o cut a million cubic f eet a yea r f or five th ousand y ears. A mong th e para lIel moun tain ridges and vall eys of North Georgia are found valuabl e dep osits of coal, iron, manganese, ro ofing sla te and aluminum or bauxite, in th e producti on of whi ch last n amed min eral Georg ia lead s, ranking high al so in th e produ cti on of cor undum, of which she ha s one of th e most n oted mines in th e U nited States . Through out th e mountain section and exte nding even down to the middle r egi ons of Georgia, are vein s of gold. Of other min eral s th ere are f ound , pyrite, talc, mica, barite, ochre and graphit e. Of precious stones th ere are in Georgia am eth yst s, diamonds, moonstones, rubi es and sapphir es. The gr anite, gneiss and lim est one of Georgia are of qua lity and exte nt suffic ient to pa ve th e st ree ts of every city in th e U nited States and th en leav e a 'sur plus sufficient for ordina ry bui lding purposes f or many y ears to com e. Sto n e Mountain , sa id to be t he la rgest single r ock of r ecord , seve n miles in circ umfe re nce and eight hundred feet above th e sur ro unding count r y, raises its maj estic 10 head within sight f ro m th e windows of A tl ant a 's bu siness di strict. In close proximity to this nobl e ro ck, and n ear Lith onia immense quanti tie s of conto r te d g ne iss are qua rried f or curb ing and pavin g pur po ses . Lim eston es and sandstones are found in bed s, not onl y in th e more n orthern countie s, but al so scattere d in ab undant qu antities t hro ughout the Sta te, while lim estone f or calcimin ing is fo und f ro m Nor th Geor gia to th e coas ta l plain r egi on, where al so marl s and phosphates a bound. 'I'h e marl bed s of So uth Georgia are said to be equa l in plant f ood t o the best in the nited Sta te s. 'I'hrough all of Georgia north of what is called th e fall lin e, whi ch run s fr om Augu sta through Ma con to Columbus, are clays suitable fo r the manu fa cture of common bri ck and t he coa rs er grades of ea r thenwa re, whil e im mediately below this lin e in a n1l1'1'OW belt running a cro ss th e S ta te, are clays and ka olin , from which are manufachued po r celai n, enameled br ick, ch ina ware, terra cot t a, sewer pipe and ever y thing of the jug and sto ne wa re lin e.
