Since 1958, gross sales of products sold on our markets have increased an average of $8,460,000 annually. Gross sales alone, of course, are not a criteria for the measurement of our markets' value to the state. Assurance to the buyer and producer alike that he receives quality products at a fair price is of greater importance; however, gross sales do reflect the improvement of facilities, and the efficiency of the market staffs, whose devotion and efficiency make this quality for value received possible. Much of the progress in the past year is a result of legislation passed by the 1961 General Assembly enabling the Department of Agriculture to put into effect programs to promote the sale of farm products. These programs are already showing their value in the marketing of sweet potatoes, peanuts, eggs and milk. Flans are already far advanced to apply them to tobacco and peaches in the near future. Much of progress in 1961 is due to the wholehearted support of these programs by producers and buyers. Last, but by far of greatest importance, this progress is the outcome of the support of the people of Georgia to our state farmers' markets. Despite adverse weather conditions during 1961, which greatly curtailed production of produce and citrus crops, it is a pleasure to announce that again for the fourth successive year, sales of products passing through our Farmers' Markets have reached another all time high -- from a 1960 gross of $83,646,157.00 to a 1961 gross of $92,142,375.04 -- a gain of $8,496,218.04. You are cordially invited to visit our markets at any time and to make use of their modern facilities. PHIL CAMPBELL Commissioner of Agriculture t?Myr T0( OUR FRIENDS AND PATRONS; WEiWANT TO EXPRESS OUR SINCERE, APPRECIATION FOR YOUR PAST SUPPORT AND\TO CORDIALLY INVITE YOU TO BE WTCH US A^GAIN THIS YEAR.
