Production increased 3 percent from 1.26 billion broilers produced in 2003. Pounds produced in 2004 totaled 6.49 billion. The average price received per pound for broilers in 2004 was 44.0 cents per pound, up 10.0 cents from the 2003 average price. Georgia ranked first in the number of broilers produced and accounted for 15 percent of the number and 14 percent of pounds of the Nation's broiler production in 2004. For the tenth consecutive year, Georgia ranked number one in the Nation in value of broiler production. EGG PRODUCTION Egg production in Georgia for the year ending November 30, 2004, totaled 5.04 billion eggs, slightly less than in 2003. The number of layers averaged 20.3 million in 2004, 1 percent less than the previous year. In hatching egg flocks, the average number of layers was down 2 percent, to 9.05 million from 9.22 million in 2003. The average number of layers in table egg flocks was 11.3 million in 2004. All layers in Georgia produced an average of 248 eggs per hen in 2004, 1 egg more than 2003's average of 247.
