Dooly, Irwin 7 COUNTY LINE CHANGES IN GEORGIA The following section is for quick-reference to county line changes in Georgia for the period, 1786 through 1932. From the creation of the state until 1881, all county line changes had to be passed by the Georgia General Assembly and become an act or law. Those acts have been printed yearly and all changes have been extracted from those published laws. Commencing in 1881, if two counties agreed to change their com on boundary, they simply declared it changed, recorded that change in their own county records, and made no notification to the state. Therefore. for the most part, the only changes on file at the state level after IXX I are those whereby new counties were created or old ones merged. Today, Georgia counties are still changing their boundaries and recording those changes in their local records. If the more recent changes are needed, one has to go to the Probate Court of either county involved and search the record books therein. Due to space, no attempt has been made in this pamphlet to fully describe the areas involved in the changes. further research in the published annual law books is needed for that purpose. 8 COUNTY LINE CHANGES APPLING Took area from: Pierce, 1858; Wayne, 1875, 1876 Gave up area to: Bacon, 1914, Jeff Davis, 1905; Pierce, 1857, 1858, 1874; Telfair, 1819, 1825; Ware, 1824; Wayne, 1858, 1872, 1876 ATKINSON No changes recorded BACON No changes recorded BAKER Took area from: Calhoun, 1860; Early, 1825 Gave up area to: Calhoun, 1854, 1863, 1877; Dougherty, 1853; Early, 1859; Miller, 1856; Mitchell, 1857 BALDWIN Took area from: Hancock, 1807; Jones, 1856; Washington, 1807, 1812, 1826; Wilkinson, 1807, 1856, 1872 Gave up area to: Jasper, 1807; Jones, 1807; Morgan, 1807; Putnam, 1807 BANKS Took area from: Hall, 1859; Jackson, 1859, 1870 Gave up area to: Hall, 1859 BARROW No changes recorded BARTOW Took area from: Cherokee, 1856; Murray, 1834; Paulding, 1852, 1854 Gave up area to: Floyd, 1843, 1845, 1852; Gordon, 1850, 1852, 1854, 1856, 1869; Polk, 1860; Murray, 1850 BEN HILL No changes recorded BERRIE!\!
