SORT OFFENDERS BY RISK Administer evidence-based offender need/risk assessment 
 25 geographic Hot spots  Highest risk offenders are sorted by zip code and judicial circuit  A supervision model was developed focusing supervision and resources on the offenders in these Hot Spots 
 Dynamic risk assessment instrument  Determines a probationer's risk level as standard or high  Offenders are supervised based on the supervision standards for their assessed level 
 Probation Officer Sentencing Specialist (POSS)  Designed to be a liaison between the Courts and the Department in an effort to keep Courts informed of available sentencing alternatives  Located in each of the 49 judicial circuits  Training is held quarterly to keep officers updated on sentencing alternatives and Georgia laws 
COMMUNITY IMPACT PROGRAM (CIP)  Collaboration between Probation and other local and state agencies  Offers a pool of employment, education and treatment resources to assist the offenders; specifically those re-entering from prison  Programs are located in Macon, Columbus, Atlanta and Augusta with the intent to expand to other Hot Spots 
INTERVENTION PROGRAMS  All programming delivered by GDC staff will be evidence-based  Programming offered in Probation Offices and Day Reporting Centers  Motivation for Change  Moral Reconation Therapy  MATRIX Early Recovery Skills and Relapse Prevention  Anger Management  Reentry Skill Building  Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)/Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings 
 
DESIGN GDC SENTENCING MODEL/ LEVERAGE SPECIALITY COURTS 
 Developed a sentencing model to assist staff and the Courts in their use of GDC community and secure alternatives 
 Become more involved in Accountability Courts throughout the State.  Courts such as Drug, Mental Health, Veterans and Family courts 
 Georgia's Justice Reinvestment model relies heavily on Accountability courts 
UTILIZE TECHNOLOGY TO IMPROVE EFFICIENCIES IN SUPERVISION AND ENHANCE PUBLIC SAFETY 
 Technology used to supervise 80,000+ lower risk level offenders  Probation Reporting Contact Center (PRCC)  Accountability of lower risk offenders  Offender must call in each month to meet their probation compliance report  If there is an issue, a live GDC Call Handler will transfer the call to the local Probation Office  Allow Probation Officers to more effectively supervise higher risk offenders and protect the public  Virtual office pilots conducted using teams of officer armed with smart phones, tablets and laptops to allow access to probationer information while in the field 
IMPOSE SWIFT, CERTAIN AND PROPORTIONATE SANCTIONS 
 Probation Options Management (POM) initiative  Hearings/waivers addressed within 15 days by GDC Hearing Officers to reduce time in court for probation staff and judicial staff  POM currently statewide in 36 of 49 probation judicial circuits  Saves state/county funds by shorter pre-hearing offender jail time  Sanctioning MATRIX designed to be used by probation officers as a guideline for probationer non-compliance  Community and Secure Options sanctions can be applied for probationer non-compliance

 Award process for Probation Officer of the Year  Field Training Officer (FTO) program certified by Georgia 
Peace Officers Standards and Training Council (POST)  FTO - instructors, mentors and sources of knowledge for new and veteran staff 
 Researched, developed and provided Superior Courts with a guide, bench book, for incentives for compliant offender performance and behavior 
SEAMLESS TRANSITION OF SUPERVISION Incarceration to Probation 
 Reentry checklist and supervision plan for offenders released from prison 
 Prison release notification process improved for offenders released to community supervision 
 Reentry Stabilization Program/Process  Offender supervision 90 days upon release  Offenders without any probation or parole supervision following their incarceration 
 Reentry Point of Contact Officer in each probation judicial circuit 
 
PROBATION ACCOUNTABILITY  Probation Accountability Reports (PAR) built into SCRIBE case management system  Tracks areas such as drug testing, employment, community service, etc. at a glance  Uses technology to get the best information possible  COMPSTATS held from local level all the way to executive level  Process compares statistics from circuit level down to officer level to ensure adherence to standards  Using modern technology to get the best information possible 
PROBATION LEGISLATION  Researched national and state initiatives and trends to meet current and future needs of Probation  Supported the Governor's Criminal Justice Reform initiative to:  Enhance public safety  Create greater offender accountability  Promote stewardship by reinvesting prison system dollars into treatment programs and community supervision
