Green Core Area Definitions The Georgia Department of Labor's Workforce Statistics & Economic Research Division has identified five core areas of green business activities and green jobs. This pamphlet presents our findings for Service Delivery Region (SDR) #12 Coastal Georgia. Broadly defined, a green job is one that produces goods or provides services that benefit the environment. The work can be found in at least one of the five core green economic clusters listed on the back of this pamphlet. Nearly one percent of all jobs in this region are green, roughly the same percentage as in the state as a whole. Of the approximately 40,000 total green jobs in Georgia, 1,680, or over three percent, are located in this region. These jobs can be found in all five green economic clusters, in nine major industry sectors, and in 35 different occupations. They range from jobs that do not require any education beyond high school to positions that require advanced degrees and extensive job experience. Survey Highlights Fifteen of the 35 green jobs had an average wage higher than Georgia's mean wage ($20.56) for all occupations, while 11 had an average wage ($22.75) higher than all green jobs combined. The average wage ($21.60) for all green jobs is more than 16 percent higher than the mean wage ($18.61) for all occupations in this region. Nine industry sectors in this region had green jobs, 61 percent of which are goods-producing. Out of 35 green jobs in this region, eleven typically require a bachelor's degree or more.
