This pamphlet presents our findings for Service Delivery Region (SDR) #2 Georgia Mountains. Broadly defined, a green job is one that produces goods or provides services that benefit the environment. The work can be found in at least one of the five core green economic clusters listed on the back of this pamphlet. Nearly one percent of all jobs in this region are green, roughly the same percentage as in the state as a whole. Of the approximately 40,000 total green jobs in Georgia, 1,580, or almost four percent, are located in this region. These jobs can be found in all five green economic clusters, in eight major industry sectors, and in 38 different occupations. They range from jobs that do not require any education beyond high school to positions that require a college degree. Survey Highlights Fifteen of the 38 occupations had an average wage higher than Georgia's mean wage ($20.56) for all occupational employment, while 13 occupations had an average wage ($22.75) higher than all green jobs combined. Half of the top green jobs have average wages greater than the $17.95 average for all green jobs in this region. Nearly 70 percent of all jobs in the Georgia Mountains SDR are in the increased energy efficiency core area. Of the eight industry sectors found to have green employment in this SDR, Construction comprised nearly 60 percent, nearly five times more than the second leading industry sector. Almost 25 percent of the green jobs in this region require a bachelor's degree. Of the top ten green jobs in this region, four belong to the construction and extraction occupational group.
