Suite BOO Atlanta, Georgia 30303 April, 1984 Election Dates for Georgia's County and I4unicipal Officers Data on election dates for county and municipal officers were taken from the Georgia Municipal Governrrent Information Catalog, 1983 and the Georgia Coru1ty Governrrent Infonna.tion Catalog, 1983. The mfonnation was provided by local officials in the spring of 1982 to the Deparbrent of Ccmm.mity Affairs. 'Ihe election dates are arranged in chronological order by rronth, week and day of the week and in alphabetical order for each date. Table 1 provides election dates for counties and Table 2 provides election dates for municipalities. Surnna.ry Findings About Georgia's County and Municipal Elections: County Elections o County elections in Georgia are held during only three rronths - August, November and December. o 'lhe rrost popular dates for county elections are November, First Tuesday (57 counties) November, Second Tuesday (53 counties) Hunicipal Elections o Municipal elections are held during all 12 rronths of the year. o By far, the rrost popular rronth for elections is December. Fifty-five r;ercent of the elections are held in December. ~ember and January are the distant second and third rrost popular rronths for elections with 16 percent and ten percent occurring, resr;ectively, during these rronths. o Fewer elections are held in July than any other rronth. The three municipalities with July elections Savarmah, Fayetteville and Lula - have the date scheduled the second week in July so there is no conflict with Independence day. o Sru1day is the only day of the week on which no elections are scheduled.
