Merchandise Centennial Olympic Park Brings Home the Gold The Park brought home the gold at the International Festivals and Events Association (IFEA) 54th Annual Convention and Expo. The Park won three prestigious Pinnacle Awards gold for Best Organization Newsletter (Fountain Pen), silver for Best Program (Wednesday WindDown) and bronze for Best Event Invitation (All Children's Playground). The professional competition drew almost 1,500 entries this year. The Park was competing against top international festivals such as the Macon Cherry Blossom Festival, Kentucky Derby, International Festival Lent in Slovenia, The Hague Festivals in the Netherlands and the Singapore Garden Festival. "The level of competition makes it a real honor to receive these awards. The Park continues to strive for excellence and to serve as an award-winning destination," said Joe Skopitz, assistant general manager of Centennial Olympic Park. In keeping with the spirit of the 1996 Olympic Games, the Park continues to offer unique and fulfilling volunteer opportunities including staffing the Park's Information Desk. Information Desk volunteer shifts are flexible and available seven days a week. In addition, volunteers can learn about and experience many of Atlanta's other unique locations by participating in exclusive site visits. Last weekend, Park volunteers toured the Historic Oakland Cemetery. This garden cemetery, founded in 1850, is the final resting place of many of Atlanta's settlers, builders and most noted citizens like Bobby Jones, Margaret Mitchell and Maynard Jackson. It is also a gallery for sculpture and architecture and a botanical preserve with ancient oaks and magnolias.
