Demand for more restaurant and retail space Downtown has steadily grown with the opening of the Georgia Aquarium and with more downtown residents. This demand is expected to accelerate with the opening of the new World of Coca-Cola and as more residential projects are completed. Legacy's latest project is the $90 million Park Pavilion mixed-use development project on Luckie Street across from the Georgia Aquarium and Centennial Park West. Anchored by a 242-room Hilton Garden Inn, the first new Hilton to open in downtown Atlanta in 30 years, the project includes 50,000 square feet of retail/restaurant space and a public 670-car parking deck to serve both the hotel and the surrounding attractions. The Park Demand for more restaurant and retail space Downtown has steadily grown. Already a champion of development in this neighborhood, Legacy Properties has several large projects underway. The real estate development firm is responsible for the 321-room Embassy Suites Hotel, the 98-unit luxury residential condominium project Centennial Park West and more recently the Glenn Hotel. Pavilion project is in addition to Legacy's Restaurant Row being built on Marietta Street as well as added retail space at Centennial Park West. 2 BE07_rnd4.indd 2-3 the BIG event Visiting Atlanta Attractions More Enticing with Two New Programs Atlanta recently launched two pass programs that will entice visitors and residents alike to take in all the city has to offer. Partnership with Louvre Brings Great Art to Atlanta Thanks to a groundbreaking partnership between the High Museum of Art and the Muse du Louvre, Atlanta will have three years of exceptional art exhibits normally only viewable in Paris. Hundreds of works from the Louvre's collections will be on display at the High during this unprecedented exhibit. The partnership will bring works to Atlanta by such masters as w w w. g w c c . c o m Raphael, Velasquez, Poussin, Durer, Rubens, Watteau and Rembrandt. Year One, which began this past October and runs until Sept. 2, 2007, is called "The Royal Collections" and portrays the artwork amassed by Frances' royal family before the Revolution. Year Two of the exhibit is "The Louvre and the Ancient World" and the third year is "The Louvre of Today and Tomorrow". From start to finish the exhibit traces the history of the Louvre from its royal beginnings to the present. In addition to the collections, the collaboration includes the exchange of cultural expertise, educational programs and the development of joint bilingual publications, conferences, films and seminars exploring exhibitions and related themes. The exhibit concludes in October 2009. www.high.org 3 5/14/07 11:43:15 AM From Lenox Mall to the State Capitol, The Peach Makes Transit Direct A new MARTA bus route makes traveling from downtown to Buckhead a simple excursion. Despite an investment in directional signage prior to the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games, there are currently many layers of signs that have been installed by numerous independent governmental and private initiatives. The new signage system includes uniform, attractive, geographically-oriented maps, signs and kiosks. Graphic elements on the signs will give directional information for different modes of transportation including private autos, commercial vehicles, bus and rail transit, pedestrians, Segways and bicycles. For convention and tradeshow attendees maneuvering downtown, the new wayfinding signs will prove very helpful. The signage program includes 255 signs supporting over 70 destinations throughout downtown and midtown. With 1,740 fixed seats, the auditorium is ideal for any event needing tiered seating and a permanent stage. In addition to new seats, carpet, dcor, an updated color palette and new house lights, the auditorium features a new Meyer MICA line array sound system. The system has 12 speakers with six per cluster at house left and house right and four ultra hi-power subwoofers concealed over the stage. With this full range concert level PA system, the Sidney Marcus Auditorium is perfect for a wide variety of events. Over the past 30 years, the versatile space has seen many kinds of events, including presentations, graduations, religious services, dance performances, product launches, theatrical events, sales meetings With a new look and ambiance, Sidney Marcus Auditorium is perfect for a wide variety of events. and motivational speakers. With this extensive renovation the Sidney Marcus Auditorium continues to be an ideal location at the Georgia World Congress Center, providing a space for special events as well as break out events for conventions and trade shows. New Innovative Food Concepts Now Available in Buildings A & B Helping to keep attendees on the show floor, concessions in Buildings A and B recently underwent major renovations providing new looks and new food concepts. Only a few shows have had the opportunity to dine at the new restaurants, but so far the response has been excellent. The new innovations will continue to make dining options at the GWCC different from any other center in the country. Options include "Zona" which offers Mexican food including build your own tacos, "Shaken" with exotic salads and sandwiches, "Crave" with southern style food and "Burger Burger," whose name says it all. These new concessions will make the coveted on-site break exactly what your attendees crave! 6 the BIG event BE07_rnd4.indd 6-7 Building Updates and Upgrades Building C is the newest building at the Georgia World Congress Center, but the entire facility is like-new with constant updates and upgrades. Retrofitting Buildings A and B and making sure they are always fresh and up-to-date is a top priority. The most glamorous recent change is the addition of the Executive Boardroom, a new meeting space with elegant ambiance. The table in the new boardroom seats 34, with 20 additional side chairs. The table contains eight connection points for power, laptop connection to the screen, Internet connection and audio and video ports. The lights, drapes, projector lift, projector and projection screen have fully integrated controls. The room includes a 42-inch plasma TV in the boardroom lobby, internal and external network connections as well as wireless, low profile microphones throughout the table and a telephone hybrid system that allows for teleconferencing through the room's microphones and speakers instead of through a table top phone. In addition to the new Executive Boardroom and the newly renovated Sidney Marcus Auditorium several other projects have been underway to keep Buildings A and B modern and fresh. In the Thomas Murphy Ballroom, the carpet and chairs have been replaced and the drapes and wall panels will be replaced this year. The bathrooms in the galleria of the ballroom have new lighting, toilet partitions, sinks, wall covering and granite countertops for an all new look and feel. Less glamorous, but equally important changes about to take place in Building A include replacing doors and all of the door hardware, replacing the escalator units and renovating the cooling tower and replacing all 29 air handling units. Additionally, the roof of the Building B Registration Hall and A/B Connector will be replaced and afterwards, the carpet in the same two areas will be replaced, which will complete the overall recarpeting project of all three buildings. Keeping the entire Georgia World Congress Center state of the art and fresh is an ongoing process and a source of great pride. Long-time Partner With a New Name After a 30-year partnership with MGR Food Services, the Georgia World Congress Center's long term catering service has a new name. Levy Restaurants purchased MGR and as of Jan. 1, the company has officially switched to using the Levy name. The in-house catering company still offers the same great food and service, complemented by Levy Restaurants' extensive experience as the catering provider for arenas, convention centers, attractions and facilities all over the country. Remembering to call the GWCC's catering services by a new name might be difficult, working with Levy Restaurants is anything but difficult. w w w. g w c c . c o m 7 5/14/07 11:43:23 AM NCAA Men's Final Four Delivers Exciting Weekend in Downtown Atlanta The excitement of the 2007 NCAA Men's Final Four blanketed the entire Georgia World Congress Center Authority campus and downtown Atlanta from March 31 April 2.
