Find out more REACH Scholarship Update In February, Governor Nathan Deal announced the launch of the REACH (Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen) Scholarship, a new, privately funded needs-based scholarship. The goal of REACH is to provide comprehensive support, starting in middle school, in order to increase the academic persistence and achievement of Georgia's low-income and future first generation college students. AT&T is the founding donor of the REACH Scholarship and, since the launch, additional groups, organizations and colleges are showing their support. The University System of Georgia (USG) Foundation donated $50,000 to the REACH Scholarship Program, Georgia's new needs-based scholarship. The check was presented to Governor Nathan Deal by Foundation Chairman, Ken Bernard, at the Regents' annual Salute to Education Awards Dinner in late March. Bernard said, "As we work to create a more educated Georgia with our partners, it is important to use every resource available. Gov. Deal's REACH need-based scholarship program is designed to bridge the access gap and ensure opportunity. On behalf of the Foundation, we are excited about REACH and its potential, and pleased to provide a $50,000 contribution. We see it as an investment in our state's future. We join with those great University System institutions that have so far stepped up and committed funds, as well as our corporate and individual partners, in support of the Governor's efforts. It's the right thing to do for Georgia and for Georgians." Additionally, 12 USG colleges and universities and 17 private institutions throughout the state have joined in supporting the REACH scholarship by matching or double matching the award.
