Field Operations Weekly Report March 4 March 10, 2018 This report is a broad sampling of events that have taken place in the past week, but does not include all actions taken by the Law Enforcement Division. Region I- Acworth (Northwest) FANNIN COUNTY On March 4th, Cpl. Cody Jones responded to a 61-year-old man who sunk his kayak and was stranded on a log jam in the middle of the river. The water in Fightingtown Creek was swift and high due to several days of rainfall in the area. Cpl. Jones located the victim by using a DNR kayak and was able to get a throw rope to him. Cpl. Jones was able to float the DNR kayak from the bank to the victim. The victim got in the DNR kayak and was pulled to safety by Cpl. Jones. The victim was checked for injuries and hypothermia by the Fannin EMS. He soon was reunited with his family. CATOOSA COUNTY On March 10th, Game Wardens McConkey, Shrader, and Turner conducted Information & Education (I&E) programs at Cabela's in Catoosa County. The Game Wardens answered questions regarding hunting, fishing, and boating. They were asked to assist with special events being held for the upcoming turkey season. WALKER COUNTY On March 8th, Game Warden Travis Shrader received a call to assist Walker County fire and rescue with a lost and injured caver at the Petty John cave located on Crockford-Pigeon Mtn. WMA. A male was caving at the Petty Johns cave with a large group and injured his left knee and ankle to where he could not walk or get himself out of the cave. With the aid of the Walker County Rescue, Walker County Cave Team, DNR Cave Team and the Community Emergency Response Team the victim was located toward the back of Petty Johns Cave. He was extricated from the cave where medical teams began to render first aid. He was then transported to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga TN. by Puckett EMS for further medical treatment for his knee, ankle and also for a possibility of mild hypothermia. DOUGLAS COUNTY March 9th, Sgt. Eric Brown and GWFC Daniel Gray patrolled on Sweetwater Creek State Park. There was no activity to report. FULTON COUNTY March 9th, Sgt. Eric Brown and GWFC Daniel Gray conducted an investigation at the HWY 166 boat ramp in reference to several illegal dump sites. The case is still under investigation. CARROLL COUNTY March 9th, Sgt. Eric Brown and GWFC Daniel Gray responded to an individual fishing on a creek on private property. The subject was charged for fishing w/o a license and warned for fishing w/o permission. POLK COUNTY On March 9th, Sgt. Eric Brown, Cpl. Chad Cox, and GWFC Daniel Gray attended career day that was held at Cedartown High School. Juniors and seniors from Rockmart and Cedartown High Schools attended the event. March 9th, Cpl. Chad Cox and GWFC Daniel Gray was on hand at the Cedartown Airport to see Governor Deal sign the amended state budget. BARTOW COUNTY Cpl. Chad Cox and GWFC Daniel Gray assisted Bartow County Deputies and other game wardens with locating a possible suicide subject. Region II- Gainesville (Northeast) BARROW COUNTY On March 4th, GWFC Chris Kernahan conducted an area check for illegal fishing activity on private property in Barrow Co. He apprehended three suspects who were fishing without permission. The violations were addressed. Later that date, GWFC Kernahan patrolled Fort Yargo State Park. While on patrol he addressed violations that included operating a vessel without registration, fishing without a license, and illegal possession of alcohol. JACKSON COUNTY On March 4th, GWFC Kernahan conducted an area check at Bear Creek Reservoir for fishing and boating activity. While on the area check, he addressed violations that included operating a vessel without registration, taking game fish by illegal methods, non-resident fishing with a resident license, and operating a vessel with insufficient PFDs. Region III- Thomson (East Central) WALTON COUNTY On March 9th thru 11th Ranger Jason Harrison patrolled Hard Labor Creek Reservoir for boating and fishing activity. Violations for fishing without a license and insufficient PFD's were documented. Region IV- Macon (West Central) No activity to report. Region V- Albany (Southwest) DECATUR COUNTY On March 9th, Cpl. Tony Cox located two subjects fishing in a boat in panic pond on Silver Lake WMA. The subjects were charged with fishing on a closed wildlife management area and operating a vessel without PFD's. Region VI- Metter (Southeast) WILCOX COUNTY On March 10th, Game Warden John A. Stokes patrolled for fishing activity on the Alapaha River. Two anglers were located fishing. Two violations for fishing without a license were documented. LAURENS COUNTY On March 10th, Game Wardens Dan Stiles and Allen Mills patrolled the Hugh M. Gillis Public Fishing Area. Ten anglers were checked for licenses and creel compliance. One violation was documented for fishing without a fishing license. Region VII- Brunswick (Coastal) No activity to report.
