Field Operations Weekly Report February 4 February 10, 2018 This report is a broad sampling of events that have taken place in the past week, but does not include all actions taken by the Law Enforcement Division. Region I- Acworth (Northwest) BARTOW COUNTY On February 9th, Cpl. Bart Hendrix and Warden Mark Puig patrolled Red Top Mt. State Park. The Wardens located a male fishing. The male was found to be intoxicated and was issued a citation for consuming alcohol on a State Park. The male also did not have a park pass for his motorcycle. The Wardens advised the male to have a sober driver pick him up. Approximately one hour later Warden Puig observed the male driving in the area. Warden Puig stopped the male and attempted to conduct field sobriety exercises. The male was uncooperative with Warden Puig. The male was arrested for DUI and transported to the Bartow County Jail. CHATTOOGA COUNTY On February 4th, GWFC McConkey responded with the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office to a possible suicide attempt by a juvenile in the county. The caller reported there was a struggle for the firearm from the 16 year old subject. The officers arrived at the location where the Deputy secured the suspect while Game Warden McConkey secured the firearm and multiple knives found on scene. The subject was found unharmed and later transported by EMS for medical treatment due to statements made. WALKER COUNTY On February 3rd, Game Wardens McConkey, Turner, Elmore, and Shrader completed a detail for raccoon hunters in Walker and Chattooga Counties. During the detail, three raccoon hunters were checked for the required small game license to hunt raccoon. Also located on this detail was a side by side or ATV occupied by a single male subject. The ATV was located riding on U.S. Forest Service property in Chattooga County. The subject's information was obtained and turned over to a U.S.F.S. Officer for the violation of riding the ATV on Forest Service property. GORDON COUNTY On February 5th, CPL Shawn Elmore assisted Gordon County SO and Georgia State Patrol with a search for a fleeing suspect that had a knife in the Resaca area of Gordon County. A pursuit had occurred and the suspect wrecked and ran on foot. The suspect pulled a knife and Gordon County deputies deployed a taser. After a Calhoun police K-9 arrived on scene, the suspect was taken into custody. Region II- Gainesville (Northeast) BARROW COUNTY On February 5th, GWFC Chris Kernahan completed an investigation that concerned the commercial dumping of egregious litter. GWFC Kernahan interviewed the suspect, and found them to be the responsible party. The violation was addressed. Region III- Thomson (East Central) NEWTON COUNTY On February 6th, Ranger Dan Schay patrolled Newton County for fishing activity. A violation of fishing without a license was documented. On February 10th Ranger Jason Harrison patrolled Lake Varner Boat ramp for fishing activity. Violations for fishing without a license were documented. OCONEE COUNTY On February 10th CPL Julian Wilkins attend the Three Rivers Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation banquet. CPL Wilkins answered questions from the attendees at the banquet. Region IV- Macon (West Central) No activity to report. Region V- Albany (Southwest) COLQUITT COUNTY On February 6th, Game Warden Tommy Daughtrey was patrolling Reed Bingham State Park where he checked three subjects fishing below the dam. One subject was found to be without a license and cited for the violation. On February 10th, Game Wardens Tommy Daughtrey and Sgt. David Ruddell checked three fishermen on the Little River and cited two for fishing without license. DOUGHERTY COUNTY On February 9th, Game Warden Eric White received a complaint of a subject in a pickup truck hunting squirrels from a public road bordering a pecan orchard. Warden White responded to the scene the following day and observed the subject driving through the orchard looking for squirrels in the trees. Warden White made contact with the subject who admitted to shooting from the road bordering the property. Warden White charged the subject with hunting from a public road and issued him a warning for hunting from a vehicle. MACON COUNTY On January 10tth, Game Wardens Jesse Harrison and Clint Martin worked an illegal dumping complaint on the Montezuma Bluff Wildlife Management Area. A Macon County Sherriff's Deputy informed Harrison he had already spoken to the subject that dumped the trash and the trash had been removed from the WMA. Harrison went to the subject's residence and spoke with the subject about the dumping. Harrison later learned the subject took the trash from the WMA and dumped it in three locations along Rock Dam Road and Tom Adams Road. The subject was issued four citations for unlawful dumping. Region VI- Metter (Southeast) TATTNALL COUNTY On February 5th Game Warden Clint Jarriel responded to a deputy that found a caged raccoon on a search warrant. Jarriel wrote the owner a citation for holding a game animal without a permit. TOOMBS COUNTY On February 10th Game Warden First Class Bobby Sanders was patrolling landings along the Altamaha River. Two fishermen were contacted as they arrived back at a landing and during a license compliance and creel check it was discovered one individual was in possession of marijuana. The violation was addressed accordingly. WARE COUNTY On February 10th, Corporal Jason Shipes was patrolling the Suwannee River Sill located in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. During this patrol, Cpl. Shipes encountered several subjects fishing and boating in the area. While checking for the proper license and boating safety equipment, Cpl. Shipes found one subject without a valid license. The angler failed to notice that his license had expired towards the end of 2017. A warning citation was issued for the offence and the subject was released. IRWIN COUNTY On February 4th, Corporal Dan Stiles and Sergeant James McLaughlin patrolled the Alapaha River Wildlife Management Area. No violations were detected. On February 10th, Corporal Dan Stiles and Ranger First Class Allen Mills conducted a night patrol at the Alapaha River Wildlife Management Area. Three individuals were checked on the property. No violations were documented. LAURENS COUNTY On February 5th, Corporal Dan Stiles taught the Hunting & Firearms Safety section of the Choosing Healthy Activities and Methods Promoting Safety (C.H.A.M.P.S.) program to four classes of 5th grade students at the Southwest Laurens Elementary School. Eighty-three in total received the program. DODGE COUNTY On February 10th, Game Warden Allen Mills responded to a hunting without permission complaint. While enroute, Game Warden Mills was contacted by Corporal Dan Stiles, who advised that he was enroute as well. The officers arrived on scene and located thirteen individuals hunting hogs with dogs. The complainant stated that these individuals did not have permission to be on his club. After speaking with one of the suspects and verifying the call, it was determined that they had called another club member to get permission to retrieve their dogs. The officers checked all persons on scene for license and regulation compliance. 4 violations for hunting without a license were documented. Region VII- Brunswick (Coastal) No activity to report.
