In this issue: 2012 HPF grant recipients announced Scholarships available for 2012 NAPC Forum Position available at HPD 2012 HPF grant recipients announced This year's projects include historic resource surveys, a cemetery survey, design guidelines, website development, a National Register nomination, and a predevelopment project for a significant community landmark. An additional $4,000 will be available for historic preservation commission scholarships to state and/or national Certified Local Government (CLG) training workshops. Scholarship recipients will be announced in May. See the application announcement below for more information. The grant recipients are: City of Atlanta--$10,500 for phase 1 of a downtown mid-20th-century historic resources survey. City of Avondale Estates--$11,500 for phase 1 of a city-wide historic resources survey. City of Chickamauga--$4,200 for phase 1 of a city-wide historic resources survey. City of Cordele--$6,000 for design guidelines for the Gillespie-Selden historic district. City of Decatur-- $10,900 for a National Register nomination for its northeast residential neighborhood. City of Gainesville--$9,000 for residential and commercial design guidelines. City of Jefferson--$1,200 for a historic preservation commission website. City of Savannah--$12,000 for phase 1 of a city-wide historic resources survey. City of Thomasville-- $1,870 for a ground penetrating radar survey of Laurel Hill Cemetery. City of Tifton-- $20,000 for phase two of a preservation plan for the historic Myon Hotel. These grants are provided through the Historic Preservation Fund from the U.S. Department of the Interior's National Park Service and are administered by the Historic Preservation Division (HPD) of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Each year, Georgia's 83 CLGs are eligible to apply for these matching 60% federal/40% local grants. To be eligible to become a federal CLG, a city or county must have passed a historic preservation ordinance and have established a historic preservation commission. March 29 - Staff participated in the Roswell Historic Gateway Master Plan Workshop, historic preservation focus group meeting. March 29 - Staff attended the Valdosta Heritage Foundation Annual Meeting & Dinner. March 30-31 - Staff made presentations about HPD community assistance programs at the Historic Preservation Commission Training in Valdosta. Division Director Crass gave opening remarks; training is co-sponsored by HPD, GAPC and UGA. March 31 - Staff attended the Georgia Association of Preservation Commissions quarterly board meeting in Valdosta. HPD and the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions (NAPC) will award three scholarships to attend the 2012 NAPC Forum in Norfolk, Virginia, July 18-22, 2012. Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis to either historic preservation commission (HPC) members or staff in a Certified Local Government (CLG) of good standing. Each CLG may apply for one scholarship per HPC member or CLG staff. Please note that all scholarships will require a 40% match (in-kind, cash or a combination of the two).
