Twenty-two farms owned by members of the same family for 100 years or more received Centennial Family Farm Awards. Georgia's Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black gave the keynote address and presented the awards with DNR Commissioner Mark Williams. Photos of this year's farms will be posted to HPD's Flickr page soon. Applications for the 2012 awards cycle are available online and due May 1, 2012. New iPhone app for Georgia State Capitol tour Tim Crimmins, professor of history at Georgia State University, and grad student Chris Escobar, have developed an iPhone October 8-14, 2011 Upcoming HPD-sponsored events December 6-7 - NEPA Compliance and Cultural Resources seminar - presented by NPI in cooperation with HPD and the Georgia Department of Transportation - Atlanta December 8-9 - Section 4(f) Compliance for Historic Properties - presented by NPI in cooperation with HPD and the Georgia Department of Transportation - Atlanta Recent HPD staff activities October 1 - Staff attended Public Archaeology Day at Camp Lawton, Magnolia Springs State Park. Director Crass was interviewed for a CNN news story scheduled to air in early November. October 5 - Staff met with Northeast Georgia Regional Commission staff in Athens. October 6 - Staff met with Three Rivers Regional Commission staff in Newnan. Director Crass met with Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) personnel to discuss coordination of federal compliance with reservoir planning. The iPhone project was funded with a grant from the National Endowment of the Humanities and can be downloaded at the iTunes store. Reminder: 2012 Preservation Awards call for nominations due on Monday The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation is seeking nominations for its 2012 Preservation Awards, an annual list of preservation projects and individuals in the state who have made significant contributions to the field of historic preservation. Awards are presented on the basis of the contributions of the person or project to the community and/or state and on compliance to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. Nominations must be postmarked or e-mailed no later than Monday, October 17, 2011. Positions available in Georgia Communications Intern - Georgia Historical Society in Savannah seeks an energetic Intern to assist with special projects and day-to-day operations throughout the year, including upcoming Georgia History Festival 2012 events. Duties will include: assisting the Director of Communications with mailings and event publicity, updating media and fundraising lists, filing media clips, some phone calls to media and elected officials, support for the Georgia History Festival Trustees Gala and other events/programs as needed. Land and Water Conservation Fund Grants: Applications are now being accepted for nearly $9 million in grants to help states and local communities acquire and preserve threatened Civil War battlefield land.
