Preservation planning is one of the core responsibilities of state historic preservation offices under the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. Each state is tasked with developing a preservation plan to guide statewide preservation efforts. Our current plan, Georgia's State Historic Preservation Plan 2007-2011: Building a Preservation Ethic, is available on our website. Although our current plan will take us through 2011, it is never too early to start assessing what has been accomplished and identifying new opportunities and challenges for preservation in Georgia. Therefore, we have started the process of updating our current plan. One of the most important aspects of developing a preservation plan is to gather public input. We have prepared a short, ten question survey that is available online. Hard copies are also available by contacting our office, but we are encouraging the use of the online survey. We need your input! Make your views known and opinions count by filling out the survey. New Condition Assessment Tips Condition assessments are a holistic approach to understanding how buildings were constructed, used, and maintained, and the various mechanisms that affect their structural and material condition. Whether done for research purposes or as a precursor to restoration work, all condition assessments have two primary objectives: to identify materials and features, and evaluate their condition. Check out the NCPTT's new condition assessments tips online.
