Through a Partners in the Field grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and generous support from statewide donors and charitable organizations, each Place in Peril will receive direct assistance as part of The Georgia Trust's Partners in the Field program. Jordan Poole, field services representative, will visit each designee and work with the local property owners and community leaders to help form a preservation strategy for each 2011 Places in Peril site. Stephanie Meeks Named 8th President of National Trust for Historic Preservation Stephanie Meeks, an experienced non-profit leader, will become the National Trust's eighth president. Starting in July, she will replace Richard Moe, who served as president over the past seventeen years. Meeks currently serves as president and CEO of Counterpart International, a $110 million development organization operating in 25 countries. Available grants USDA Rural Development's Rural Business Opportunity Grant (RBOG) program The RBOG program promotes sustainable economic development in rural communities with exceptional needs through provision of training and technical assistance for business development, entrepreneurs, and economic development officials and to assist with economic development planning. To be eligible for funding, an applicant must be a public body, non-profit corporation, Indian Tribe or cooperative with members that are primarily rural residents. Applicants must also have significant expertise in the activities proposed and the financial strength to ensure the objectives of the proposed grant can be accomplished. Applications are due June 28. More information on how to apply for a USDA Rural Business Opportunity Grant is available at www.rurdev.usda.gov/rbs/coops/rbog.htm. Historic Chattahoochee Commission Matching Grant Program Historic Chattahoochee Commission (HCC) has announced the continuation of its Matching Grant Program. Grants are provided on a 50/50 reimbursable basis with the goal of developing the Chattahoochee Trace's full potential for historic preservation and tourism. All projects funded under this program must be innovative in scope and application. Projects that are a continuation of on-going programs will not be eligible for consideration. HCC has set aside $10,000 during FY 2010-11 to assist in the funding and development of various projects in the Chattahoochee Trace area of Alabama and Georgia. Previous grants have been awarded in the $500-$3,500 range. The application deadline is August 6, 2010. All projects must begin after October 1, 2010 and be completed by August 5, 2011. The Foundation will also offer the Richard L. Blinder Award, a biennial grant of up to $15,000 for the best proposal exploring the preservation of an existing structure, complex of buildings or genre of building type through addition, renovation or other means. The subject of the submission may be a real project or a polemical exercise; in either case originality is highly valued.
